Worry Bear has brought so much love to all those who have received
this beautiful bear as a gift or purchased it for themselves. I know
this is true because I receive letters and cards thanking me for creating
Worry Bear. Thank you all for letting me know of the joy my sweet bear
has brought to your family and friends.
One story imparticular stays with me. The story told to me by a little
boy's Mom. The little boy would always cry when he had to go to bed until
he received Worry Bear as a special gift. From the moment Worry Bear
was in his arms he stopped crying at bedtime. We all know love and touch
heals, perhaps Worry Bear brings the message to all he loves.
The Story of Worry Bear is simple yet complex. Worry Bear was created
for my sister Sally by me. Sally believed that Worry bear was meant to
be shared with everyone in need of love, compassion and healing. I believe
that is the message Sally and I want to share.
Sending blessings and love

One
night in December 1990, Patricia Wood walked in her back yard in Westlake
Village, California, missing her sister, Sallyann, who had recently died
of cancer. Pat had been searching for a way to deal with her grief and
was suddenly inspired to compose her first poem ever, “The Story
of Worry Bear.”
That poem about Sallyann and the effect that cuddling and talking to
a stuffed bear had during her last few months alive inspired Pat to form
Worry Bear, Inc., a California corporation that designs and merchandises
shaggy teddy bears and books of poetry to help children and adults let
go of their troubles and recognize the importance of kindness and love.
For Pat, president and founder of Worry Bear, Inc., the idea originated
while Sallyann was at St. Charles’ hospital in New York receiving
treatment for cancer. Pat was constantly by her sister’s side,
and then, she needed to return briefly to Los Angeles. Before leaving
for California, Pat gave Sallyann a teddy bear – one they named
Worry Bear – it became her constant companion. For Sallyann, cuddling
Worry Bear filled a void while pat was in Los Angles and helped her forget
her pain and emotional devastation so that she could concentrate on getting
well.
During Sallyann’s last few months, Worry Bear provided comfort
and friendship. Worry Bear was her companion during ambulance rides to
receive radiation, and she cuddled and shared all her fears with him
in her bed. After Sallyann died in November 1990, the same bear helped
Pat express her own grief, hopes and fears so that she could move forward
in her life.
Pat then realized that she could help other people find peace of mind
after seeing how much the “Worry Bear” had benefited her
sister and later herself.

To be the Teddy Bear Company of
choice for children of all ages.
To provide significant contributions
to those charities that are working towards winning the war against cancer,
substance and child abuse.
Worrybear is a wonderful gift to
share with children of all ages, even grown-ups. Worry Bear, designed and
created by me when I was experiencing great emotional pain due to the terminal
illness of my sister.
Through the creation of the
teddy bear, I was able to come in touch with and express my real feelings
of loss,
courage and eventually grief. For my sister, she literally "held" on
to the bear. I am sure little "worrybear" helped her in the most
positive healing sense.
It is with great pleasure I am able
to share my bears with you and those you love.
